Leti – Ray Barretto

Jeff Berlin – Bass

This is something that Jeff Berlin recorded around the time that he hooked up with Bill Bruford for the ‘Feels Good To Me’ sessions (I don’t have the exact dates for these sessions so cannot say whether they were before or after the Bruford work. There are a lot of things that Berlin did that don’t get the publicity of the big name stuff but there are loads of sessions that he did early in his career that are worth looking up if you want to know what this guy did for a living before the fusion superstar sessions.

This is a session that he did with percussionist Ray Barretto in 1977 for the album, ‘Eye Of The Beholder’. the The tune is called ‘Leti’ and it is a kind of Pop/Latin hybrid that was common around this time as Jazz players were starting to try and recover some ground from the Disco era/ Then came Punk and it all turned to s***! It’s perfectly playable but there are some gnarly passages to watch out for.
