Chris Minh Doky – Bass
Chris Minh Doky (born 7 February 1969) is a Danish jazz bassist. He is the younger brother of jazz pianist Niels Lan Doky. He released his first album, Appreciation, in 1989 four years after picking up the instrument.
As a sideman, he has collaborated with Mike Stern, Michael Brecker,Trilok Gurtu, Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sanborn.
His sound is often described as a blend of his native Scandinavian tradition with the feel of his adopted homeland, the United States.
The transcription features the complete performance of the Don Grolnick tune, ‘The Cost Of Living’ from Minh Doky’s 2010 album, ‘Scenes From A Dream’. The album features arrangements by Vince Mendoza and I have been trying to capture the sound that he gets on his bass here ever since I have owned an instrument (I got my double bass in 2010). It is generally not too difficult but there are a couple of bits in his solo that will screw you up and there is a very short figure that appears repeatedly throughout that will take some figuring out.
