The Enemy Within – Rush

Geddy Lee – Bass

The 1984 album, ‘Grace Under Pressure’ was probably the popiest of the band’s recordings and it was great to see them recover some of the edge later in their collective career but, despite the commercial tinges surrounding ‘Signals’ and ‘Grace Under Pressure’ and ‘Power Windows’, there are some moments. ‘The Enemy Within’ is a little marmite as it is essentially a Police tune (Geddy SLAPS, for God’s sake!!) but there is an energy about the tune that endears us bass players to the tune. It isn’t an easy read in that it is a fast tune but there are only really about 8 bars in total and the rest is essentially those bars repeated. Great workout for shops building, though.
