Waterloo – Chris Ingham Quartet

Rev. Andrew Brown – Bass

Yes, Andrew really is a Reverend. It’s not just a nickname. More to the point, he was, for many years, the first call bass player with Suffolk’s Chris Ingham and the band he led with saxophonist Kevin Flanagan. Chris used Andy on bass for his Quartet’s 2016 tribute to pianist Dudley Moore who, before he was a comedian and comic actor was a Jazz pianist and composer. This record contains 16 tunes associated with or composed by Moore and is really worth a listen (Chris has since recorded tribute albums to Stan Getz and to Walter Becker and Donald Fagan of Steely Dan fame). Chris is someone who I have played with on and off for the last 10 – 15 years, as are drummer, George Double, and trumpet player, Paul Higgs, both of whom are on this recording – each of them is a legend on the East Anglia/UK Jazz Scene.

The tune is called ‘Waterloo’ although I suspect it is a reference to the train station rather than the Battle of….. It is a fairly conventional Hard Bop/Jazz Samba hybrid and has some kicks in it that break the tension. Playable once you get used to the pace of it. Great fun and worth a go.

The recording can be purchased through Chris’s own website Home | chrisingham
