Milonga Del Angel – Astor Piazzolla

Adalberto Cevasco – Bass

I am not entirely sure if this is Cevasco but a search though the discographies and the dates of the recordings suggests he is the most likely candidate.

Cevasco first became known as a bassist in the group of guitarist Rodolfo Alchourron. With trumpeter Gustavo Bergalli, saxophonist Bernardo Bara and drummer Nestor Astarita, he founded the Free Jazz group Cuarteto Buenos Aires. As a sideman, he has also worked with leading musicians of the Argentine jazz scene such as Gustavo Kerestezachi, Ruben Lopez Furst and Andrés Boiarsky. He performed with Gato Barbieri at the Montrux Jazz Festival in 1973. With guitarist Ricardo Lew and drummer Pocho Lapouble, he then formed the fusion band El Trio (album of the same name in 1974). He also accompanied the singers Rocia Jurado, Isabel Pantoja and Patricia Clark (to whom he was married all his life) but also Astor Piazzolla, who brought him into his octet Conjunto Electrónico (1976) and participated in further albums.

In 1988, Cevasco released Parajos Electricos, his debut album under his own name, with guests such as Litto Nebbia and Ruben Rada. He can also be heard on albums by Gato Barbieri, Enrico Rava/Aga Taura Confab, Mercedes Sosa, Gente de Nuevos Aires, Leopoldo Federico Trio and Saúl Cosentino y el Grupo Vanguardia.

Cevasco [assed away in March, 2025, aged 78.

The transcription is the complete performance of the Piazzolla staple ‘Milonga Del Angel’ from the 2010 ‘Piazzolla En Suite’ (I suspect there have been other editions of the same recording). The recording is live and there are a couple of passages where I am not entirely convinced as the notes are ambiguous but you can see how it goes and, if you disagree, let me know. A relatively easy read but one of those tunes where simple is perfect.
