Victor Bailey – Bass

A request from a website user this is a transcription of the tune ‘Blue Victory’ as performed on the attached YouTube video which is a live concert recording from 1990. If I am reading the internet correctly, the band was led by guitarist Gyula Babos (the tune appeared on his 1994 album, ‘Blue Victory’ but, after that, I don’t really know much about the band. It included Babos Gyula (guitar), Victor Bailey, Terri Lyne Carrington (drums), George Jinda (percussion) and Szakcsi Lakatos Béla on keyboard.

The tune is pleasant 90s fusion and features a lovely solo from Bailey who also plays the tunes main theme (I wonder whether the title is a dedication to Bailey?). The main challenge from the dots is the transposed sections that play an octave higher than written. Otherwise, it is not too bad. Bailey’s sound is one of those immediately recognisable sounds if you spent any time with the Weather Report recordings he was on (Domino Theory, This Is This, Procession & Sportin’ Life)
