Jorge Roeder – Bass
A folksy little tune from Jorge Roeder’s 2020 solo bass album, El Suelo Meo’, this is the complete transcription of the Manuel Alejandro tune ‘Chabuca Limeña’ (I have no idea what it means and Google Translate doesn’t help). It’s not nearly as hard to play as it first sounds and the only real challenges in the read are that double stop where notes hang whilst phrases carry on – like a classical guitar or piano part. A pretty little tune with a hint of pathos.
This album gives me a lot of listening pleasure. Great tone, pretty tunes – what more can you ask for from a solo double bass recording.
Just found this online:
The song “Chabuca Limeña” … is a heartfelt tribute to the iconic Peruvian singer-songwriter Chabuca Granda. The lyrics express a deep sense of loss and admiration for Chabuca, who was a beloved figure in Latin American music, known for her beautiful compositions that often celebrated the culture and people of Lima, Peru. Raphael’s rendition is a poignant homage that captures the essence of Chabuca’s impact on music and her homeland.
So there you are.
