Will Lee – Bass

Another of the ever-striking Bob Mintzer Big Band charts, this one featuring the Will Lee bass part to ‘Truth Spoken Here’ from the 2015 live album, ‘Get Up’. This is an interesting chart and it does that simple thing that all the great players do which is to hold down a groove that is fairly firmly set but fill the lines with endlessly subtle variation. There is one fill that will cripple everyone but is is literally one bar at the end of a 24 bar horn driven section and the bass player could easily ignore is without any detriment to the performance.

Great groove that still sounds fresh.
