Martin Turner – Bass

I actually bought that edition of Beat Instrumental when it was published. That’s brought back some memories. It was a great magazine back in the day.

I always wanted to like Wishbone Ash and there are definitely some tracks of theirs that I liked but they weren’t really heavy enough for me so I just thought that they were ‘o.k.’ Listening back 40+ years on, I would have liked more of it had I gone back later (you don’t, though, do you?). I never heard the ‘Argus’ album all the way through although I knew of it. Too busy with Brand X probably. This was mentioned by someone on Basschat, I think. The tune is called ‘Sometime World’ and it has a massive bass line at the far end. It looks scary on paper but it isn’t that hard as it is essentially a repeating ostinato. Interesting, it reminds me of ‘Driving Home’ by Steve Wilson. Similar wistful voice.
