Charlie Haden – Bass
One of the most musical players in the Jazz canon, Haden was one of those guys who played with everyone. One of the people he hardly played with (I can only find two tracks) was Al DiMeola and, given the nature of most of DiMeola’s music, that is probably not surprising (chalk and cheese come to mind). The two Haden/DiMeola performances are both on the ‘Pursuit Of Radical Rhapsody’ album from 2011. The other tune was a Beatles tune but this one, Harold Arlen’s ‘Over The Rainbow’, is a cripplingly slow ballad with very few notes in it so an easy read (which is why I wanted to include it). It’s in Eb so watch for the key signature.
