Mark Egan – Bass

I know that Egan had lessons from Jaco but I don’t know if this tune was dedicated to Pastorius himself, or titled this way because the closing choruses are pure Pastorius 16th note grooving but, in the end, it doesn’t matter.

This one is being put up because the last Egan tune I transcribed, ‘April Joy’ generated a request from someone on one of the bass forums I frequent. This is from the same PMG album as ‘April Joy’ and features the complete Egan performance of ‘Jaco’. I was always fond of this line-up but my respect for Egan has increased further as a result of transcribing the solo in this tune. It is really fresh to hear someone playing beautifully melodic solos that aren’t BeBop based.
