Egyptian Danza – Al Di Meola

Bass Player: Anthony Jackson

Way back in 1978, six string basses were rarely seen and it was Anthony Jackson who was pioneering this extended range instrument. Referring to it as a Contrabass Guitar, Jackson worked with luthier’s carl Thompson and Vinny Fodera on developing these instruments. He is still playing a Fodera bass today and has remained at the forefront of the instruments innovations.

It was in 1978 that Jackson recorded the album, ‘Casino’ with Return To Forever guitarist Al Di Meola. This transcription is the tune ‘Egyptian Danza’ that opens the album. It is presented here in 12:8 in order to make it more readable (there are other transcriptions out there in 4:4 with triplets and they are really difficult to interpret). Some really nasty passages in here so worth spending some time on.
