Bass Player: Paul Chambers

A Chambers composition, this is a transcription of the head and the first few bars of the tune ‘Ease It’ which has appeared on several albums under different ‘leaders’ but which is a live recording of Chicago gig by a band featuring PC with Cannonball Adderley, Freddie Hubbard, Wynton Kelly and Philly Joe Jones. Released as a Chambers led album called ‘Go’, the recording is dated 1959 which means it is around the time that four of these musicians recorded ‘Kind Of Blue’ with Miles Davis. The fact that it is a live recording means that the bass is not particularly well recorded so the transcription falters after 8 bars of the chorus because it is all but impossible to identify the notes being played. Nevertheless, the head is fun to play and shows of PC’s chops beautifully.
