Bass Player: Geddy Lee
What else can we say about Geddy Lee? One of the pre-eminent bass players in Rock, he has won awards and plaudits from a host of sources and has influenced more than one generation of bass players. A lot of his reputation arose from the halcyon days of 1970s/80s Rush and from the classical albums, ‘2112’, ‘A Farewell To Kings’ and ‘Hemispheres’. The transcription attached is Lee’s complete bass performance from the 18 minute tune, ‘Cygnus XI: Book II – Hemispheres’. A six part ‘suite’, Lee does not play any bass on the last section (The Sphere: A Kind Of Dream) and for a large section of ‘Armageddon’. The rest of the tune is 14 pages of absolute classic Lee; grinding Rickenbacker bass. As a read, there are sections that are incredibly challenging and others that are less so but watch those time signatures; they are all over the place.
