Paul Chambers – Bass
I haven’t posted anything from my man for a long while and just though that this deserved a look. The tune ‘Blue In Green’ is often credited to Miles Davis but the Jazz cognoscenti are generally of one mind in believing that it was a Bill Evans composition as it sounds like an Evans tune in every sense. The bass part is not a demanding part and a lot of it is root notes but there you cannot deny the innate musicality in Chambers’s performance. A lot of the ambience of the tune comes from the bass (imagine this tune if Mingus played it, or Ron Carter? It would have been totally different).
From the biggest selling Jazz recording of all time (which Chambers got paid less than $200 dollars for), ‘Kind Of Blue’.
