Anthony Jackson – Bass
It is surprising when you do a transcription of something like this that, despite the relative simplicity of the arrangement, you can still hear Jackson’s personality all over the place. His sixteenth note licks, his volume swells, his choices in terms of where he plays a note on the bass, the highly selective decisions me makes about the use of the low B – it’s all there in spite of the fact that the part of minimalistic in nature. The sigh of true genius.
This is the complete Anthony Jackson contrabass performance of ‘Beethoven’s Piano Sonata 8 – Pathetique’ from the 2011 Hiromi Trio Project album, ‘Voice’. This transcription is only playable on a six-string as it goes ‘down there’ a few times but, if you want to tweak it to lift into the realms of a 4-string, be my guest.
