Steve Rodby – Bass

I believe I read it in the Pat Metheny Songbook, that this tune was Metheny’s attempt at doing something like those great Earth, Wind & Fire records with the harmonised vocals but mainstream pop music this isn’t. The whole thing is a masterpiece of melody, rhythm and harmony. It is also. for me, THE track I go to if I want to show that Rodby is no wallflower. Those last few choruses are unbelievable, a masterclass in groove and sophistication.
