Mockingbird – Barclay James Harvest

Les Holroyd – Bass

Les Holroyd was the bass player with UK Prog legends Barclay James Harvest. Proper Prog – double neck guitars, mellotrons, orchestras – the whole shebang. lacking the virtuosity of the likes of Genesis and Yes et al, they nevertheless made some wonderful records in their date. Some of it has dated terribly because of the very folksy/hippie lyrics but, for those of us of a certain age, these old records give one a warm, fuzzy feeling – a bit like wartime couples dancing to Glenn Miller!

Despite the Alembic, Les Holroyd was no Stanley Clarke and this part is not going to threaten Dirty Loops or Snarly Puppy’s fan base but there are some interesting moments nevertheless. This was a request of Basschat and is the complete Les Holroyd bass part for the legendary ‘Mockingbird’ from the 1971 BJH album, ‘Once Again’.
