Hans Glawischnig – BAss
Something a bit different. From the 2005 Miguel Zenon album, ‘Jibaro’, the tune ‘Mariandá’ is very loose in terms of groove and there is a lot of breathing in the tempos. Stuff like this is usually played with lots of eye contact and nods that are interpreted by players who know each other and have played together for along time. Without the visual cues, it can be hard to comprehend what is happening but there is still enough going on here to be able to write it down. There are lots on interesting textures and ideas including staccato bass notes and slides that are probably never played the same way twice. Interesting stuff. There are challenges here that force you to think beyond concepts of groove and conventional time.
