Jimmy Haslip – Bass
Another one of those legends who has worked with everybody, Jimmy Haslip was an early exponent of the five-string bass which he took into his main band for many years, ‘Yellowjackets’ (not THE Yellowjackets, just ‘Yellowjackets’). Haslip waited until 1993 before releasing an album under his own name and it is from the album, ‘Arc’ that we find this tune ‘Niños’ (Spanish for children). I couldn’t get underneath this tune until Moises let me in but it is not so very difficult to play although there are a lot of subtle rhythmic details that mean you have to concentrate to get through the chart accurately.
