Graeme Murray – Bass
A nostalgia trip for me, this time. I was speaking to my brother via WhatsApp and he shared that he was listening to the 1984 Pallas album, ‘The Sentinel’ which I hadn’t heard for probably 30 years. I looked it up on YouTube and had a listen and this one caught my ear. This would have been the single on the album as it lacks the normal Prog excesses (although they do play around with odd time signatures which is essential if you are going to be considered a neo-Prog band (this was the era that brought us Mariliion, IQ, Solstice and Twelfth Night. The band pretty much disappeared after this record came out (sporting a marvellously Proggy Patrick Woodroffe cover). The album was produced by Eddie Offord – how much more Prog can you get? A read through their Wikipedia page suggests that they have been here all along but there has been next to no reference to them in the mainstream media. I guess you had to go looking if you were interested and my head was always elsewhere.
The track transcribed is called both ‘Eyes In The Night’ and ‘Arrive Alive’ depending on which of the albums you listen to but it is the same composition. Just a thumping, driven bass part with a couple of nice bits added to give it an edge. Rickenbacker all the way.
