Bass Player: Larry Klein

Bass players gravitate towards Joni Mitchell primarily because of the contributions that Jaco Pastorius made to, amongst others, the albums Hejira, Mingus and Shadows and Light. Those who continued to follow Mitchell beyond the ‘Jaco’ years will come across Larry Klein, a bass player, producer and songwriter with a CV that includes Freddie Hubbard, Carmen McRae, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Peter Gabriel and a host of others. Whilst Jaco was always going to be a tough act to follow, Klein’s three part bass line for the tune ‘You Dream Flat Tires’ from the 1982 album, ‘Wild Things Run Fast’ is a first class attempt!

The core bass part is the lowest of the three; the top two parts are the harmonies for the intro riff.
