From: Michel Camilo Big Band – One More Once
Bass Player: Anthony Jackson
Six String Bass pioneer Anthony Jackson has been Michel Camilo’s bass player of choice for decades, having featured the bass player on his first professional recording in 1984 until his most recent appearances with the bass player before ill health forced AJ into retirement. This is a full transcription of AJ’s performance of the tune ‘Why Not’? from the cd ‘One More Once’ in which the bass player displays an astonishing mastery of rhythm and a range of techniques on his signature Fodera Anthony Jackson Presentation Contrabass Guitar. A passive instrument with NO electronics and NON eq, the bass is pure Jackson. There are several performances of this tune featuring Camilo and Jackson in trio, sextet and big bands settings and everyone of the them is absolutely charged. It is a tough read but worth the time to get your head around the sixteenth note syncopations. I am already in discussions with another transcriber who disagrees on detail so be aware that some of the dots are disputed! Hey, that’s ok. It’s a journey , not a destination.
