We Gotta Get Out Of This Place – Blue Oyster Cult

Joe Bouchard – Bass

Multi-instrumentalist Joe Bouchard is a legend in the rock world as a co-founder of the legendary Blue Öyster Cult.  During his time with the band in the 1970s and 1980s, he dominated the charts with his bass playing, singing, songwriting skills and incredible live performances that earned him nine gold and four platinum awards.  Their hit single “Don’t Fear the Reaper” contiues to be a dominant classic on rock radio and digital streaming.

After retiring from BÖC in 1986, he continues to gain new fans with his music, releasing 7 solo albums and playing with Blue Coupe and other musical acts.  Joe’s latest solo album American Rocker is a must-listen for all rock fans, showcasing his unmatched talents  and creativity, was released on June 3, 2022.  Joe has been performing live shows with his band and is planning an all new album for 2025.

Some Enchanted Evening is the second live album by Blue Oyster Cult and was released on September 13, 1978. The album was certified for a million units sold in the United States. The album’s seven tracks were recorded at various locations in the United States and in the U.K.

The album was re-issued on CD in early 2007 on Legacy Recording and included seven previously unreleased bonus tracks recorded in various locations around the US, along with a DVD entitled Some OTHER Enchanted Evening, which featured a previously unreleased performance videotaped at the Capital Centre in Largo, Maryland on July 14, 1978.

The attached chart is the complete bass performance of the tune ‘We Gotta Get Out Of This Place’ and features a single bar ostinato throughout the tune. The chorus is root notes and thirds and there are a couple of bridge fills but, essentially, it is a simple but effective bass part, the kind we all love. A favourite live album for me back in the day with some great writing.
