Tom Sawyer – Rush

)

Bass Player: Geddy Lee

Another track from the 1981 Rush album, ‘Moving Pictures’. This album is felt, by many, to be apex of the band’s career and that they never bettered it (fortunately for Lee, Lifeson and Peart, there are plenty that disagree). The track ‘Tom Sawyer’ was arguably the stand out single from the album which makes it potentially the most significant song in the Rush catalogue. The transcription was taken from an ‘isolated bass’ track (where the bulk of the song has been removed by some level of studio trickery, leaving the bass part exposed). What this process does is reveal that there are quite long passages in the piece where there is no bass and the bottom end is covered by Taurus bass pedals and the like. The transcription is a lot easier that one would expect from the Gedmeister but some challenging parts nevertheless.
