Tipatina’s – Mike Stern

Lincoln Goines – Bass

I think most of us heard of Lincoln Goines first through that book he did with drummer Robbie Ameen ‘Funkifying The Clave’. Useful little book for rhythm section players trying to get a handle on Latin bass grooves that were becoming increasingly prevalent in Jazz-Fusion circles. Goines is one of those guys who has played with everyone including Flautist Dave Valentin, saxophonist Sonny Rollins and Paquito D’Rivera, pianist Michel Camilo and singer Carly Simon. One of his most regular recording gigs is with guitarist Mike Stern. This is Stern’s tune ‘Tipatina’s’ from the 1999 album ‘Play’. great groove but watch the ghost notes. A lot of the groove sits in those ghost notes.
