Composer – John Williams
With apologies to John Williams and to Itzhak Perlman, I have transcribed the melody for this piece and moved it around the octaves to make it potentially playable on the double bass. I have enough insight to know that it doesn’t work that well and there are a couple of Perlman fills that are not really playable on the bass but the theme is so profound, it is sufficiently inspirational to warrant giving it a go. It’s a practice piece rather than a performance piece so should probably remain in the woodshed with a lot of other practice devices. The time feel of this is very flexible and the intense passages are not played metronomically, rather as flourishes. Just make it sing, people.
