John Patitucci – Bass

A solo electric bass thing from John Patitucci’s 2015 ‘Brooklyn’ album. The tune is played on a six-string bass and is kind of two parts echoing back and fore, one part high up, the other low down, like a Jazz guitarist playing melodies and walking lines. The challenge here is the fact that, in order to keep it readable, big parts of the chart are written to be played 8va, the parts where Patitucci is playing up high. It’s not as challenging as some of the ridiculous pieces you see being played by some of the lunatics on social media but it is arguably more musical for all that.
