Bass Player: Glenn Tollett
A brief internet search suggests that The Enid’s 1976 album, ‘In The Region Of The Summer Stars’ represents Glenn Tollett’s entire career as a professional musician, the young Tollett going on to make a life for himself as a dentist. Tollet was a member of The Enid for around two years from 1975 – 76. The band continues to the day but, dental career aside, Tollet found other avenues for exploring his music which included the production of ‘BEYOND THE CLOUDS’, a powerful musical following the lives of a Lancaster pilot, his young wife, their feuding families and his fiercely loyal crew through the height of WWII. Full of edge-of-the-seat drama, some riotous humour, and a few tears too, it is packed with haunting and memorable songs. Tollett has also worked with, amongst others, Steve Hackett keyboard player, Nick Magnus.
The transcription of ‘The Devil’ suggests that this is a through composed part. There are several sections where the bass drops out so there is lots of counting for the reader, something that is an often forgotten aspect of the discipline of reading. The title ‘The Demon King’ simply relates to the fact that the tune was retitled, ‘on a whim’ for later release.
