John Patitucci – Bass

Another album that sneaked past me was the 2019 solo bass album, ‘Soul Of The Bass’. I love solo double bass albums. They are the coolest thing on the planet and as rare as hen’s teeth. I am still absorbing this one but Patitucci sounds so soulful on the double bass (I always think he looks uncomfortable on an electric (plays like an angel, just looks uncomfortable) but he looks (and sounds) at home on the big fella.

This is my take on the title track of that album. It is played very freely and out of time so that makes transcribing that little bit more challenging but you can take real liberties with these kinds of tunes and they always sound ‘right’!
