Gary Willis – Bass

I loved these early Tribal Tech records because there was a really creative mix between hi-tech guitar stuff and world percussion/saxophones. I always thought of this as a 1980s Weather Report – great compositions, great playing and great bass work from the legendary Gary Willis. Some of my own chops come from listening to this guy and looking into his approach to muting. I could never get under these lines before but the appearance of MOISES has let me in at alst.

This tune is composed by keyboard player Will Boulware and is called ‘Solemn’. Watch the time signatures as there are odd bars of 2:4 in there (whether they are where they are supposed to be is anybody’s guess). I played through this at half speed and think it is there.
