Bass Player: Robin Phillips
‘This one was a labour of love. I was a fan of this band when the first album appeared in 1984 and remember seeing them at The Granary in Bristol. I remember it because the singer who was with the band when they recorded their first album was not at the gig and the whole thing was done instrumental! 36 Jazz soaked years later, I rediscovered the band when I got hold of a copy of the 2021 album, ‘Sia’. The production on this album is so much stronger that the original recordings I heard of the band and the song-writing and arranging has advanced considerably. The bass playing on the album may not be as technically complex as many of the other transcriptions on this site but they serve the songs absolutely perfectly in both tone and note choice. The transcriptions vary from the relatively simple ‘A New Day’ to some quite demanding reads with the complex time changes and tricksy passages of ‘Shout’ and ‘Stand Up’.
Here is the complete album in one PDF (the missing track, ‘Long Gone’, has no bass part) so you can play along to the entire album without interruption.
