Bass Player: Jaco Pastorius

Pat Metheny already had something of a career playing alongside Mick Goodrick with Gary Burton’s band before his first release as a solo artist on the ECM label. The album was also one of the earlyest recordings in the career of legendary bassist John Francis Pastorius III aka. Jaco Pastorius. The album ‘Bright Size Life’ has stood the test of time, in no small part because of Jaco’s performances which sound as fresh today as they did when the album was released 45 years ago (the same year as Jaco’s first eponymous solo LP).

The transcription is a head-only chart for the Ornette Coleman tune ‘Round Trip’ which closes the album. It is a beautifully melodic head which Jaco performs exquisitely. It is recommended that this is played alongside the recording in order to ensure that the phrasing is correct.
