Bass Player: Jeff Berlin
A massively influential album for guitarists and bass players alike, Allan Holdsworth’s 1983 EP (we never got why a six track album was called an EP but there you are) ‘Road Games’ featured Jeff Berlin alongside his mentor Jack Bruce (appearing on this album as a vocalist (on the tracks ‘Was There’? and ‘Material Real’). There are some stunning performances on this record but, of course, Holdsworth hated it. Everyone else the world over was blown away but Holdsworth hated it. There’s no accounting for taste. The attached transcription, which was requested through the site, is the complete bass performance on the album’s title tune. It all gets a little vague after the change in pace at the end, where Jeff starts playing chords (we think there is overdubbing going on here as there are solo lines and chordal bass, if we are not mistaken). If you hear something different, go write it down.
