Bass Player: Jeff Berlin

From the 2009 Jeff Berlin CD, this is the bass part for the tune ‘Reggae Ricardo’. Not quite sure where the Reggae reference comes in but that’s Art for you. The chart is not entirely complete as there are a couple of long solo sections including the Mike Stern solo where Jeff is playing a kind of faux- disco thing with octaves and transcribing it felt unnecessarily onerous but the chart would get you through a performance. Some great uses of ghost notes in the closing choruses – difficult to record on the stave so you may have to find your own way through that. Jeff’s bass sound is awesome on this track.
