Parisienne Walkways – Gary Moore

Phil Lynott – Bass

I vividly remember seeing Gary Moore ‘and Friends’ on The Old Grey Whistle Test performing ‘Back On The Streets’ and ‘Parisienne Walkways’ (both from the 1978 album, ‘Back On The Streets’) and loving every second of it (I would have been around 15 at the time). BOTS was probably one of the first real Heavy Rock albums I ever bought but that may be a false memory but I definitely remember listening to the album over and over and over again as we did in those pre-Spotify days. I still really rate Moore’s ballad writing and songs like ‘Song For Donna’ and ‘Castles’ from the Colosseum II album ‘Wardance’ remain strong compositions nearly 50 years later (unlike some of his other tunes). Did you know the ‘Donna’ in question is the lady leaning on the wall waiting for Moore outside the Scrubs? He must have lived of the royalties from ‘Parisienne Walkways’ for decades and it was his monster hit. The bass part was played by his Thin Lizzy bandmate, Phil Lynott. It’s not hard and I only include it here so Rockers who are exploring the dots for the first time have something to get them off the starting blocks.
