Nite Sprite – Chick Corea

Bass Player: Anthony Jackson

Chick Corea’s 1976 album, ‘The Leprechaun’, featured a stellar line up including, amongst others, bassists Eddie Gomez and Anthony Jackson, drummer Steve Gadd and saxophonist Joe Farrell. The tunes are all reflective of the compositional style that would form the basis of much of Corea’s work with the band Return To Forever.

The transcription attached is the tune ‘Nite Sprite’, the closing tune from side one of the original LP. It is a furiously paced performance with some unbelievably intense unison playing. Jackson is all over this one with some really challenging articulation. There are a couple of sections where the mix prevents an accurate transcription so think of this as a ‘full transcription with a couple of gaps’. It is always interesting to speculate on the extent to which the players on these sessions are reading as some of these lines are astonishing.
