Bass Player: Jaco Pastorius

At the height if his career, there was no-one to touch Jaco and his self proclomation that he was ‘the greatest bass player in the World’ was tough to argue with. Whilst the technical capaity of the instrument has moved on since those days, there is no doubt that John Francis Pastorius III took the electric bass to frontiers that no-one had previously approached.

Despite the rhetoric, Jaco was able to evidence his core skills just as readily as he could his stellar chops and his playing on the tune ‘Night Passage’ from the Weather Report album of the same name was pure swing, mostly straight quarter notes A relatively easy read but there are some tricky bits and a couple of gaps where the detail on an extended pedal is difficult to discern.
