Aston “Family Man” Barrett – Bass
Aston Francis Barrett, (22 November 1946 – 3 February 2024), often called “Family Man” or “Fams” for short, was a Jamaican musician. He was best known as the bass-guitar bandleader of Bob Marley and The Wailers, as well as co-producer of the albums, and the man in charge of the overall song arrangements. There are those that say that Barrett and his brother, drummer Carlton Barrett, invented Reggae and that, before them, there was a different vide to the music being played in Jamaica. This is not my area of knowledge so I have to leave it there but I wanted to put some more reggae up here just because….
The track is ‘Natural Mystic’ from the 1977 Bob Marley and The Wailers album, ‘Exodus’. The notes are easy, the feel is everything.
