Bass Player: Jaco Pastorius/Joe Zawinul

The sleevenotes on the Weather Report album are unclear on the issue and it doesn’t clarify whether the ‘bass’ line on this tune involves Jaco in any way. Legend has it that Jaco was already becoming unreliable and Joe Zawinul, the leader and keyboard player of Weather Report had, by this time, begun writing tunes where the bass part was transferrable to keyboard bass. It is very difficult to detect any electric bass on this tune even doubling the synth part so our guess is that this is Joe Zawinul and NOT Jaco. Either way, it is another four bar bass part which repeats throughout the tune and offers a foundation for Zawinul’s composed parts. Either way, a quick tune to learn.
