Roger Glover – Bass
I was never particularly a Glover fan, even in m y Heavy Rock days, but I have long since realised that I was doing him a disservice in not listening him more closely. It’s Rock bass playing but it has it’s own sophistication and Glover’s parts are very song orientated and for that he should be given credit. I have a massive soft spot for Deep Purple, both the Gillan and Coverdale led bands, but have not heard much of them since Morse joined – my mind was elsewhere with the Jazz etc. This album was one of the very first that I bought. From the 1972 ‘Machine Head’ album, the track ‘Maybe I’m A Leo’ caught my attention because, actually, I am (not that I give that astrology malarky a shred of credibility). A great thumping bass part with a monster unison fill. Glover at this finest.
