Bass Player: Jeff Andrews

Mike Stern writes great tunes, that’s all you can say on the matter. His composed bass parts are generally very strong but the chord sequences he constructs are often quite tricky and yet he weaves these profoundly melodic lines through them which results in compositions that are so natural that they sound like they came into the world fully formed. This is one such tune. The track ‘Little Shoes’ comes from the Sterns second album as a leader, ‘Upside Downside’ which was released in 1986. The transcription features the complete Jeff Andrews bass part which is deceptive in so far as it seems simple but is actually very complicated. Some advanced reading required here.
