Bass Player: Geddy Lee
From the 1978 Rush album, ‘Hemispheres’, this is a transcription of Geddy Lee’s bass part to the instrumental ‘La VIlla Strangiato’. The tune is broken up into sections as follows:
- I. “Buenos Nochas, Mein Froinds!”
- II. “To Sleep, Perchance to Dream…”
- III. “Strangiato Theme” – Bar 37
- IV. “A Lerxst in Wonderland” – Bar 81
- V. “Monsters!” – Bar 113
- VI. “The Ghost of the Aragon” – 126
- VII. “Danforth and Pape” – Bar 146
- VIII. “The Waltz of the Shreves” – Bar 170
- IX. “Never Turn Your Back on a Monster!” – Bar 182
- X. “Monsters! (Reprise)” – Bar 187
- XI. “Strangiato Theme (Reprise)” – Bar 195
- XII. “A Farewell to Things” – Bar 232
The toughest section by a country mile is ‘The Ghost of Aragon’ which features an astonishing two bar break whcih will excise most of us but is actually only really a pentatonic lick. It is not clear whether this was improvised or composed but, either way, it is one of ‘the’ Geddy Lee highlights in their 40+ year career as a band.
