Bass Player: Paul Chambers

Having written a biography on Paul Chambers and researched his extensive discography, it is always important to try to establish which sessions a tune was recorded on based on dates rather than the apparent ‘leader’ on any record, CD or download. ‘John Paul Jones’ has appeared on recordings reportedly led by Chambers himself and by the saxophonist on the date, John Coltrane. It has also been released in a ‘co-leadership’ LP called ‘High Step’ and with a completely different title (‘Trane’s Blues’) so trying to track down the tune is always going to be a little confusion. Fortunately, the wonders of technology allow use to append the correct version to the post along with the transcription.
