Renaud Garcia-Fons – Bass
Garcia-Fons has a reputation for incredibly sophisticated bow techniques that utilise specific sounds that are not often heard in double bass playing and his use of the 5-string means he has a higher range than most bass players. Despite this reputation, he does write some pretty tunes, folkish in tone rather than classical and his choice of instruments reflects this. This little piece is based around a 5:8 groove with an accordion folk melody, Garcia-Fons leave the bow alone in this one and plays a simple rooted bass part that adheres to the groove throughout. A simple piece that most of us would be able to play (whether we stay in tune whilst doing it is another matter).
The tune is called ‘Il COnfino’ and comes from an album called ‘Mediterranées – A Mediterranean Journey (Pt. 1)’ from 2010 but I cannot find the details of this tune as there appear to be two albums with the title ‘Mediterranées’ and the one this is on (it is not on the other) is difficult to find online (it isn’t even on the artist’s website).
