Bass Player: Dave Holland
A curious little bass part that underpins the Dave Holland composition ‘Four Winds’ which appears on both the bassists ‘Conference Of The Birds’ album in 1973 and trio recording he did with Steve Coleman and Jack DeJohnette in 1988 called ‘Triplicate’. It does weird things with bar lengths and is presented here as in 4:4 with a trio of 3:4 bars to trip you up. There are other ways of transcribing it but this is how we hear it. The solos are free so nothing to report there but the head is an interesting challenge with lots of phrases that cross bar lines. A challenging read but, once you ‘find’ it, not too difficult to play.
