Will Lee – Bass

The hardest working bassist in the business, at least he was at one time. Not so sure nowadays as I am a little bit out of the loop.

These Bob Mintzer charts are great because there is a clarity about the bass parts that makes transcribing them relatively easy and the results are a really useful example of that kinds of things that a Big band bass player will see put in front of him on a gig. This is Mintzer’s arrangement of Wayne Shorter’s ‘Elegant People’. The original track featured Alphonso Johnson on the Weather Report ‘Black Market’ album but this version comes off the 2015 Mintzer Big Band album, ‘Get It’ (a live recording).
