Don’t Believe A Word – Gary Moore

Bass Player: Phil Lynott

Gary Moore was something of an enigma as a guitar player and his first solo LP ‘Back On The Streets’ reflected his eclecticism by featuring Hard Rock (Fanatical Fascists and the title track), Fusion a la Coloseum II (What Would You Rather Be Or A Wasp and Hurricane), exquisite ballad playing (Song For Donna) and this reframing of the Thin Lizzy classic, ‘Don’t Believe A Word’. Phil Lynott’s simple part on this track is an easy enough read and shouldn’t cause too many problems for the relative beginner but it is a beautifully paced line in the context Moore had created for it. This version also makes so much more of the lyric than the original Lizzy tune.
