Country Bass solo: Kyle Brock

Bass Player: Kyle Brock

Kyle Brock came from Abilene, TX to attend Southwest Texas State University and then St. Edwards University. He toured and wrote music for Eric Johnson Group from 1987 until 1995 and the attached video comes from a Johnson gig. It is a very brief (less than one minute) Country bass solo. Not as ‘chopsy’ as the ‘Country Music’ solo that Stu Hamm featured on his Radio Albemuth album, the piece has a similat feel without all that slappin’ nonsense!!

The secret of this piece is in the choice of which notes to play where and the starting point is that most adjacent notes are played on separate strings e.g. open |G and g on the 5th fret of the D string. If you want to spend some time on working out the fingerings, you will find yourself with a party piece for all seasons 🙂
