Close To The Edge – Yes

Bass Player: Chris Squire

One of the most iconic Prog Rock recordings of all time, ‘Close To The Edge’ is widely regarded as the most important recording in the Yes catalogue. The album features the classic Yes line-up of JOn Anderson (vocals), Stee Howe (guitars), Rick Wakeman (keyboards), Bill Bruford (drums) and, last but by no means least, Chris Squire (bass). Squires Rickenbacker 4001 has all but defined the sound of bass in Prog Rock and is arguably one of the most widely imitated sounds in the genre. Nevertheless, there is only one bass player that sounds like this.

The tune ‘Close To The Edge’ is over 17 minutes long but it should be noted that there is a long passage, the ‘I Get Up, I Get Down’ section that features no bass.
